Passing of Firefighter and Former Commissioner Richard Gould

With deep regret, the Department announces the passing of Firefighter and former Commissioner Richard Gould. on March 29, 2020 at age 81.

For the last three years, he was a resident of Saint Joseph's Senior Home. Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY in 1961, he married Marie Ann Gould and they resided in town where they raised their family. Richard and Marie were married for 59 years. He was an owner and operator of State Alarm Company in Edison, NJ for 20 years.

Richard served his country in the US Marine Corps from 1956-1959. Richard was a communicant and usher at Saint James and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #857 and belonged to the Corporal Reinhard Detachment of the Marine Corps League.

Richard was a member of the Department for 48 years, beginning in 1972 and served as Lieutenant in 1976 and Captain in 1977. He was a Life Member of the NJ State Exempt Firemen's Association and served as Fire Commissioner from 1983-1986 and from 1997-2014. He was especially proud of his work with the Fire Prevention Bureau.

He is survived by his wife Marie Ann Minucci Gould; sons Richard and Thomas; brothers Edward and James and grandchildren Richard, Ryan, Anna and Erik. He was devoted to his family and friends as well as being a godfather to ten godchildren.
