NFPA marks National Electrical Safety Month with tips to reduce risk of electrical fires

MAY 04 - Electrical failures or malfunctions were factors in an estimated 46,500 home structure fires reported to the U.S. fire departments in 2010, accounting for 13 percent of reported home fires. These fires resulted in 420 deaths, 1,520 injuries and $1.5 billion in direct property damage, according to the National Fire Protection Association's (NFPA) Home Electrical Fires Report.

Bruce Turcotte Remembered

Over the last 38 years, Bruce Turcotte left his Woodbridge home at all hours of day and night, rushing to fight fires as a volunteer with Hopelawn Engine Co. 1.

This morning, fire engines slowly drove past Turcotte's home in a procession that included a hearse carrying his casket.

Menlo Park Terrace Fire Determined to be Arson

JANUARY 22 - A man who died in a house fire Thursday had lost the home to foreclosure, and authorities say he ignited the fatal blaze.

Robert Nass started the fire at 33 Jefferson Road, authorities say, one day after a deed was filed for the new owners of the property, who purchased the house in a sheriff's sale, according to Middlesex County records.
